Avni, Qumran Revisited: A Reassessment of the Archaeology of the Site and its Texts. Oxford: Archaeopress, 2013."In the past, archaeological analyses of Qumran which follow the method of David Stacey--of interpreting the material remains of the site independently of the contents of the texts--have been marginalized on the grounds that they 'ignore the evidence of the scrolls' (which are part of the archaeological realia of the site, it is pointed out). Qumran's Periods Ib and II should not have been conflated in scholarly discourse as if they imply a single context. Such considerations suggest that it is misleading to speak of a "single main period of habitation" of a single group or community at Qumran which ended at the time of the First Revolt. The unique find in 2004 of an intact and sealed storage jar on the plateau south of the Qumran settlement made possible an analysis of its undisturbed interior deposit in 2011. " The second is "To whom might the Lion of Wrath allude in history? It was claimed that one of them provided the first direct evidence that the Community Rule (1QS) was practiced at Qumran. I intend my essay to open spaces to allow such archaeologists' voices to be heard, liberated from the stifling constraints of a long-dominant interpretive filter promulgated in the name of the ancient Essenes. The first is "Who is the Lion of Wrath in the world of the text? Ben-Zvi, ed., Perspectives on Hebrew Scriptures II: Comprising the contents of Journal of Hebrew Scriptures Vol. Two ostraca were found outside the east wall at Qumran in 1996. Although my essay stands independently, I place it in this volume for the purpose of shielding from this line of criticism the work of archaeologists who seek to evaluate the material remains of Qumran objectively. The second test (#21) yielded a result (50 BCE-130 CE) that was deemed more satisfactory.

Here we report the find and analysis of a geological outcrop of pure gypsum at Deir Hajla ca. The consequences of the finds of the sealed jar and the outcrop at Deir Hajla are explored.

The table orders them chronologically, based on 14C age.

Many of the date ranges provided are actually two date ranges, for example the Habakkuk Commentary (#13), which is given as 160-148 or 111-2 CE.
